Kanun | Thailand

From food delivery to tech professional in three months

Kanun went from a poorly paid job as a food delivery worker in Bangkok to a stable, well paid job in the tech sector in a matter of months. After joining Generation Thailand’s Junior Software Developer program, he gained both technical skills and soft skills needed to succeed in tech.

Finding stability amid the pandemic

The pandemic made Kanun reconsider his commission-based sales job, pushing him to seek a new career path. Facing financial instability, he briefly worked as a food delivery rider, though the work was tough and unpredictable. His goal was clear: to find a more sustainable job, which led him to Generation Thailand’s Junior Software Developer program and a fresh start in tech.

Coding, soft skills, and job support

The Generation program provided Kanun with hands-on coding experience and key soft skills, such as teamwork and time management. The program’s support didn’t end with the training. Kanun received help in navigating the job application process and he was connected with some of Generation Thailand’s tech industry partners for an interview. This well-rounded approach enabled Kanun to secure his first tech job as a Back-End Developer, just three months later.

Helping others through technology

After launching his tech career as a Back-End Developer, Kanun decided to switch jobs and work as a Quality Assurance Engineer for a company whose main clients are local hospitals. The role offered him financial stability and a meaningful career, since he was using his data skills to improve patient care. He applied the techniques he learned during the Generation program, such as data querying and collaboration, making a real difference in people’s lives. Kanun’s story shows how a tech career can benefit both the individual and the community.

Where is Kanun now?

Now, after moving on from working with hospitals, Kanun continues his journey as a Quality Assurance Engineer, taking his expertise to a digital B2B platform in the food and retail sector. He’s steadily developing his technical skills and thriving in the fast-paced tech industry.

“To those who are changing careers, job hunting, or working but haven’t passed the probation period yet, don’t feel discouraged or down. It’s normal to have bad days every now and then. But remember, a bad day today doesn’t mean it will always be this way. Finding a job can be challenging at times. The key is not to put too much pressure on yourself. Don’t let setbacks shake your self-confidence. One day, you’ll find the right fit for you. Keep moving forward!”
