From Struggles to Success
Growing up, Duke was raised by a single mother, who worked tirelessly to provide for him. She ensured he had access to education, even though it was never easy. With limited resources, Duke learned the value of hard work and perseverance early on in life, a blessing in disguise.
Determined to succeed, he excelled academically and earned a degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. However, like many graduates in Ghana, he faced a tough job market in which employers are looking for candidates with more work experience than he had at the time.
A Passion for Growth and Innovation
Duke refused to be discouraged by these early setbacks. Given his passion for technology and web development in particular, he took on various roles working as a Customer Service Advisor, IT Technician, and System Administrator, each experience sharpening his skills. However, finding stable, well-paying employment remained a challenge he was struggling to overcome.
That’s when he discovered Generation Ghana’s Web Development program. Initially, he saw it as a way to refine his skills, but the program turned out to be a transformational experience.
More Than Just a Program
“It’s one thing to learn a skill, but another to be fully prepared for the job market,” Duke reflected. The program equipped him with practical, job-ready coding skills, and the intensive, project-based learning helped him to build a strong portfolio. The mock interviews he did as part of the program gave him the confidence to pitch his services effectively to clients.
Three months after completing the Generation program, Duke became a full-time freelancer, creating digital experiences for various local and international clients. His earnings tripled, which enabled him to take control of his career and financial future.
A Brighter Future
Today, Duke’s career is on an upward trajectory. His success not only provides him with financial stability but it also enables him to support his mother and invest in his future. He now has the freedom to work on projects he’s passionate about, collaborate with clients from all over the world, and explore new opportunities in tech and business strategy.
“Generation helped me unlock a potential I didn’t even know I had. I am more confident, skilled, and ready to take on any challenge that comes my way,” he told us.
