Empowering Women to Achieve Economic Mobility

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the successes of the 69,647 women who have completed Generation programs globally since 2015. They have successfully launched careers in a wide range of fields (including technology, healthcare, green jobs, customer service, and skilled trades), are earning stable salaries, have gained promotions, and have transformed not only their own lives, but the lives of their families.
“On International Women’s Day, we celebrate Generation’s women graduates,” said Generation’s global CEO Mona Mourshed. “These tens of thousands of women are now making an impact across various fields, from technology and healthcare to skilled trades. Prior to Generation, only 7% were employed – 6 months later 84% have found work, and 2-5 years later, 72% of our women graduates are still employed, a remarkable reversal of persistent unemployment. These women are inspiring others by building successful careers and changing the economic reality for themselves and their families,” added Mourshed.
Navigating a host of economic and workforce changes over the last few years, Generation women graduates have continued to make lasting improvements to their financial situation and well-being.
“Today, I am living my life on my own terms. I am no longer worried that my kids might go to bed hungry. I am focused on their education, so they can have a better life than I ever dreamed of.” – Seema, India
Before entering Generation’s programs, only 7% of women were employed. Generation’s impact persists: 2-5 years after completing the program, 72% remain employed. Only 56% could meet daily needs before they joined Generation, rising to 68% of women 2-5 years post-graduation.
“This job is a privilege, and I am so grateful for this opportunity! I work from home, yet I feel heard, valued, and respected. I also learn from colleagues I really admire!” – Mariana, Mexico
Investing in women’s economic mobility yields substantial benefits for families and communities. When women have access to financial resources and opportunities, they tend to reinvest up to 90% of their earnings into their families and communities. This reinvestment leads to improved outcomes in education, health, and overall well-being for children and families. Furthermore, empowering women economically can create a ripple effect, generating approximately 300 million jobs by 2035 through the expansion of care services and work programs. Investing in women’s economic mobility not only benefits individual women but also has far-reaching positive impacts on families, communities, and entire economies.
“As a woman, I suffered many times from gender discrimination, and now I’m working in my dream job. I would encourage all women: if you want an opportunity to change your life, apply to Generation.” – Gisell, Colombia
In our tech programs across 17 countries, 43% of graduates are women and these professions offer particularly strong long-term opportunity – 82% of Generation women tech graduates can meet their daily needs and 52% are able to save for the future.
“The tech world moves so fast, so the learning never stops, and that’s what excites me the most about it. I feel blessed to be where I am today thanks to Generation.” – Sharon, Singapore
